WALKING ON SAHARA – SAINT LAURENT’S SPRING/SUMMER 2021

Freedom of the movement — this is how Anthony Vaccarello described his spring 2021 collection for Saint Laurent.

Yves Saint Laurent grew up near the illustrious oasis of Algeria, a lofty comparison to the sandy dunes of the Sahara desert where the show is set.

This time the muse of Saint Laurent has become a little softer. The rebellious latex has been replaced by semi-sheer tulle dresses with feathers (clearly inspired by the boudoir outfits of the stars of Hollywood’s golden age), and black is almost back in abundance.

Anthony Vaccarello presented a robe and jumpsuit with a floral print in shocking bright yellow, pink, red and turquoise.

The capsule, aptly titled “I Wish You Were Here,” is an ode to the ones we’ve loved and lost. Like monsieur Yves Saint Laurent himself who the set is inspired by. Or our stylish grandparents who would have dressed in the ’60s-esque garments.

Accessories and jewels also inspired by the Golden age of Hollywood. Flower printed necklaces, long earrings, futuristic rings, long chains had been in the center of the runway show.
