Power and elegance combıned: meet the new TAG Heuer Carrera Skıpper

Distinguished by a colourful dial with a countdown timer designed for yacht races, Tag Heuer is reviving the Skipper as part of its Carrera collection, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.

Skipper was created in 1968 after Intrepid, the US yacht Tag Heuer supported as its official timekeeper, won the America’s Cup in 1967. Its production was discontinued in 1983 but it stirred up interest again in 2017 after a special collaboration between Tag Heuer and Hodinkee paying tribute to the original 1968 model. Since then, a vintage Skipper has been known to fetch as much as US$80,000.

The 2023 Carrera Skipper comes in the new “glassbox” design without a bezel as the sapphire glass extends all the way to the edge of the 39mm steel case, which improves dial legibility. The Carrera blue dial retains the Skipper’s colourful heritage with a 15-minute regatta counter at 3 o’clock segmented into three colours: green for the boat’s rigging, light teal that recalls the Intrepid’s deck, and vivid orange to alert the crew that there is only five minutes left to the end of the race.

Powered by the new TH20-06 automatic movement, the watch comes with a high-end, resistant blue fabric strap with a folding clasp with double safety pushbuttons.
