The recent recovery is the fifth-largest diamond to be discovered at Lulo since it first began operations 12 years ago, Lucapa said Thursday. The miner retrieved it from the processing of run-of-mine stockpiled ore already on site.
It is also its third diamond over 100 carats so far this year. Last month, the miner found two type IIa stones, weighing 162.42 and 116.14 carats, on successive days. It will offer the larger one as part of the company’s normal run-of-mine sales this month, while the smaller will head to tender.
In total, Lucapa has recovered 43 stones of more than 100 carats from Lulo since 2012. The miner also owns the high-value Mothae deposit in Lesotho as well as several exploration projects.
