This pandemic has certainly changed our lives in ways we never thought was possible. Despite the challenges, it is our firm belief that we together will emerge from this pandemic stronger than ever.
During the previous financial year, despite the troublesome and uncertain times, the council had organised a series of Virtual shows including IIJS, IGJS and VBSM’s that provided an opportunity for our exporter members to connect with International buyers especially since there were travel restrictions and lockdown in most parts of the world.
Presently when the world has started opening up and demand for jewellery is skyrocketing in markets like US and China, due to the second wave of COVID 19 in India there are apprehensions and restrictions put on International buyers for travel to India, put on by their respective countries. UAE, amongst others, also has suspended flights to and from India on account of the surge. However, the decision will be reviewed again after 30th June 2021 and looking at the numbers going down rapidly in major cities of India, we are hopeful that it will open up with due precautionary measures.
Despite the lockdowns across different states in India, India’s gem and jewellery exports in the last few months is showing a steady growth trend. Exports in April 2021, in comparison with the pre-pandemic year of April 2019 has outperformed and grown by 16.63%. Key export markets of the USA, HK and UAE have opened for economic activities and are witnessing considerable demand for Diamonds, Gems and Jewellery.
As you are aware India has always been the key player at Middle East region & Dubai is the jewellery Gateway for the most strategic jewellery markets such as the Gulf Countries, the Russian speaking Countries, North and East Africa, India, Central Asia, South and East Asia.
As UAE and the Middle East region, contributes to around 40% of jewellery exports from India, to cater to the pent up demand after receding pandemic and fulfil the growing demand of a much awaited physical show from both exhibitors and buyers, we propose to organize the International Gem and Jewellery Show (IGJS) in Dubai from 14th to 16th August, 2021 and invite the top decision makers from UAE, ME & other targeted regions like Africa, China and etc to meet the exhibitors for placing orders.
We are happy to inform all members of GJEPC that the Department of Commerce, Government of India has agreed to partner for organising the show and have written to the Indian Embassy in UAE to extend all possible support in organising the show. We have applied for financial support also under MAI which we are hopeful to get sanctioned.
GJEPC will be ensuring all possible safety measures at the event, as per the mandated protocols of the Govt. of UAE, which will ensure safety for all and boost the confidence of visitors to visit the show.
