GISMONDI 1754

UNCHANGING SYMBOL OF TRADITIONS

Italy has been one of the leading countries in the jewelry world for centuries. Especially Florence and Genoa are known as the centers of the art of jewelry. We have put under the scope seven generations of luxury jewelry art centers in this issue, based on Giovan Battista Gismondi, who was born in Genoa in 1754.
The traditional profession is part of success. There will certainly be a success if the rules from generations continue unchanged with new conditions. Giovan Battista Gismondi, the creator of Gismondi 1754, remained loyal to centuries-old traditions and began apprenticeships with his father and uncle at a young age. After completing his education, he established his own business in Via delle Vigne, and in a short time, he became a supplier to the famous Doria family and Pope Pius VI. Gismondi has become one of the most famous jewelers of Italy with the icon of the Virgin Mary, designed according to the order of the Pope, which is still exhibited in the Vatican Museum of Rome today.

Francesco Gismondi, the other member of the Gismondi family with seven generations of jewelry empire, was clearly recognized as one of Genoa’s top 5 jewelers in 1847, years later.

In 1880, Pietro Gismondi, a descendant of the founder, moved the jewelry workshop to the historic Via Galata building in Genoa, in the old barn of the Centurione Palace, and the place became the brand’s first store. Although the shop initially focused on silver, jewelry design came to the forefront later.
In 1950, under the guidance of Antonio, Mario, Ferdinando, and Paola, jewelry production and the restoration of silver antiques became increasingly important activities. At the same time, family members started to diversify production. While some focused mostly on religious motifs, others showed great interest in jewelry. Thus, the Gismondi family’s love and passion for jewelry has been passed down from generation to generation.

Especially seven generations later, after Massimo Gismondi worked for the family business in 1995, the brand entered an era of awakening. Born in Genoa in 1971, Massimo learned trade secrets at an early age. The artist, who has been the inheritor of the family treasure since birth, was given the task of continuing a craftsman tradition of nearly three centuries. He graduated from Gemology in 1994, like his predecessor Francesco Battista, specializing in diamonds, pearls and colored stones because of his love for art and craftsmanship.

“As a kid, I used to go to England with my family to buy antique silver from the Porto-bello markets. I encountered a mine dealer in a small county near Manchester, and since then the various stones I have seen have attracted me. When I returned to Italy, I asked my father about the gems in the shop and he told me their story. During my subsequent travels, I went to England a few more times in search of ancient silver, but my eyes were always searching for gems. Then, I realized that precious stones and minerals are my inspiration. “

Working for the growth of the company and customer satisfaction for 25 years, Massimo opened stores of Gismondi 1754 jewelry house in Nervi in 2006 and Portofino and Saint Moritz in 2011. Four years ago, the designer presented a new jewelry boutique to visitors in the St.Bart’s. The sequel to his ambitious marketing strategy made him receive a recompense for his work at the Couture international jewelry show in Las Vegas. The brand participated in the award ceremony for the first time, and the necklace in the Essenza collection won first place in the People’s Choice Design Award category.

In recent years, opening of chain stores in Praga, Naples, St. Petersburg and the United States has increased the interest in the brand.

In the modern jewelry world, “Custom Made” has always been viewed as a high-end service and is reserved for only a few customers. Gismondi offers its customers the opportunity to be as unique as its jewelry with its 1754 “personalized” project. The designs of their dreams turn into unique jewelry by adding traditional touches and upon the requests of the customers by the brand. In about 30 days, Gismondi designs the 1754 jewelry ordered and delivers it to its customers and provides them an unforgettable experience.
