Bvlgarı’s Lvcea Notte dı Luce Captures the Poetry of Lıght
Conceived in collaboration with Japanese artist Yasuhiro Asai, a master of Urushi lacquer and the ancient Raden technique, this limited-edition piece brings together Japanese craftsmanship, Italian design, and Swiss precision in one luminous work of art.
Each dial of the Lvcea Notte di Luce is handcrafted in Asai’s Kyoto atelier, where the artist uses ancestral Japanese techniques to create ethereal mosaics of light. Urushi, a natural lacquer derived from tree sap, is layered and polished with charcoal to achieve a deep, mirror-like finish. Into this surface, Asai embeds minute fragments of mother-of-pearl—each piece chosen for its shape and iridescence—to form dreamlike patterns that shimmer with movement.
The collaboration began when Bvlgari’s Executive Director of Product Creation, Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani, met Asai in Japan. Their shared fascination with luminosity sparked an idea: to reinterpret Bvlgari’s Lvcea collection—long known as a symbol of feminine radiance—through the language of Japanese artistry. “We found a new way to speak of light through the reflections of thousands of tiny mother-of-pearl fragments,” Fabrizio explains.
Every dial takes 60 days to complete, with each stage requiring both precision and patience. The result is a singular creation that captures Bvlgari’s belief that true luxury is never mass-produced. Set against a diamond-paved bezel, the lacquer’s depth contrasts beautifully with the watch’s polished steel and rose gold tones, giving the Lvcea Notte di Luce its signature glow.
The Lvcea Notte di Luce is powered by an automatic movement with a 48-hour power reserve. Available in stainless steel and rose gold versions—each limited to only 80 pieces—the watch features a 33mm case adorned with round brilliant-cut diamonds and a pink sapphire cabochon crown set with a single diamond. Completing the design is a polished and satin-brushed bracelet.
