Marco Bıcego Celebrates 25 Years of Handcrafted Italıan Craftsmanshıp and Elegance

Celebrating a quarter-century of artistry and craftsmanship, Italian jewellery house  Marco Bicego continues to redefine modern luxury through time-honoured techniques, natural gemstones, and the soulful beauty of imperfection.

In the goldsmithing town of Trissino, near Vicenza, the sound of tools against gold has a deliberate and patient rhythm. It’s here that Marco Bicego, who founded his namesake brand in 2000, continues a tradition he inherited from his father, bringing a modern sensibility to one of Italy’s oldest crafts. Since 2000, Chow Sang Sang has proudly introduced Marco Bicego to Hong Kong. Over the 25 years, the partnership has flourished through a shared passion for design and craftsmanship, bringing the unique aesthetics and expressive charm of Italian artisanal jewellery to discerning collectors.

To celebrate this milestone, Chow Sang Sang presents Marco Bicego’s masterpieces, selecting 25 of the most emblematic pieces. Drawing from the four signature collections – Marrakech, Africa, Lunaria, and Paradise. Each jewel reflects the brand’s distinct craftsmanship and timeless elegance.

Despite its global reach, every piece remains entirely handmade in Italy. The brand’s design is defined by three artisanal techniques: the Coil, the Bulino engraving, and the artful selection of natural gemstones, each transforming gold and stone into sculptural and wearable expressions of individuality.

Marco Bicego’s iconic coil technique came to be almost by accident. While working in his father’s workshop, Marco noticed a discarded chain, an imperfect piece destined to be melted down. Instead of seeing waste, he saw potential, sparking an innovation that would come to define the brand’s DNA. The coil process begins with a solid 18-karat gold bar that is pressed, over the course of an entire day, into an ultra-fine wire. This delicate strand is then hand-twisted into a spiral, a process that demands absolute precision. A gold core is inserted to stabilise the form, a step that allows no margin for error. The coil is then heat-treated to preserve its fluid, wavy texture. The result is a luminous ribbon of gold that feels curiously structured and spontaneous at the same time.

If the Coil represents the brand’s inventiveness and innovative spirit, then Bulino engraving technique speaks to its reverence for tradition. Inspired by the ancient Florentine millerighe burin method, each piece is engraved by hand with fine, parallel lines that flow in a single direction. The effect is subtle yet striking: a silky finish that catches light like woven fabric and invites touch as much as admiration. The bulino process is performed at the final stage of production, which raises the stakes considerably. A single slip of the burin or uneven pressure can ruin a finished piece entirely. Only the most skilled artisans, often with decades of experience, are entrusted with this stage. The “imperfections,” the brand insists, are intentional, and that which makes each creation one-of-a-kind.

Equally distinctive is Marco Bicego’s approach to gemstones. The brand’s designers travel to Jaipur, Africa, and beyond to source gems that speak not just through brilliance but through personality. Colour, clarity, and shape are considered holistically, with natural inclusions embraced rather than disguised. “We let the gem guide the design,” Bicego often says, a sentiment that finds expression in bold, unexpected pairings such as pink tourmaline with blue topaz, or aquamarine with citrine.

From the fluid gold threads of the Marrakech collection, inspired by desert dunes and sunlight, to the sculptural spheres of Africa, each brushed by hand with the ancient Florentine millerighe technique, Marco Bicego’s artistry comes to life in texture and movement. Lunaria offers a softer take – delicate gold leaves evoking nature’s quiet grace – while Paradise bursts with the colours of Sardinia, its gemstone mosaics capturing joy and emotion in every facet. Each of these pieces reflects the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship, creativity, and the simple joy of wearing beautiful things.
