Anabela Chan launches ınnovatıve Fruıt Gems jewellery collectıon
British jewellery designer Anabela Chan has launched her new and innovative collection titled ‘Fruit Gems’ which features colourful jewels with luscious gemstones synthesised from natural fruits and vegetables.
The line features various rings and earrings ranging from £1,190 to £1490. The collection of the vibrant gems were synthesised from Spinach, Beetroot, Blueberry, Purple Sweet Potato, Blue Spirulina, Green Plankton, and Dragon Fruit.
Chan’s team extracted pigmentation from fruits and vegetables and through a combination of processes including crushing, grinding, simmering, straining, air-drying, and freeze-drying, the Fruit Gems were bonded and stabilised with a bio-resin foundation derived from plants and renewable organic materials such as corn, soybean, agave and avocado seeds.
The rough Fruit Gems were then be cut, faceted and polished the same way as natural gemstones, with the ability to be casted into forms like molten metals.
This process also sees Chan’s team present what they call Regenerative-Gemstones, which includes a new Amber made with autumn leaves and twigs; rose quartz, turquoise, amethyst, malachite and lapis lazuli re-created using lapidary off-cuts to create new, regenerated gemstones.
