# IIJS Bharat Premiere 2026 Opens as India Expands Global Jewellery Trade Opportunities
The 42nd edition of IIJS Bharat Premiere opened in Mumbai on 5 August, bringing together India’s jewellery industry against a changing international trade landscape shaped by new free trade agreements and proposed reforms aimed at strengthening the country’s position in the global diamond trade.
## New Trade Agreements Reshape Export Outlook
The exhibition, organised by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), opened at the Jio World Convention Centre (JWCC) with the inauguration attended by Shri Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Maharashtra’s Minister of Revenue, alongside senior industry and government representatives.
India’s free trade agreements with the UAE, Australia, Oman and the United Kingdom have created new preferential market access for Indian jewellery exporters. Agreements with the European Union and New Zealand are also awaiting operationalisation.
The India–UK CETA came into force on 15 July, while the India–Oman CEPA took effect on 1 June. The developments are expected to provide Indian exporters with greater access to major international markets.

## IIJS Marks 25 Years
Recognised as the world’s second-largest gem and jewellery B2B exhibition, IIJS Bharat Premiere 2026 covers more than 135,000 square metres across two venues, with more than 2,100 exhibitors occupying 3,600 stalls.
The organisers expect more than 50,000 visitors, including over 2,700 international buyers from more than 80 countries.
The exhibition runs at JWCC, BKC, from 5 to 9 August, and at the Bombay Exhibition Centre (BEC), NESCO, Goregaon, from 6 to 10 August. This year also marks the 25th anniversary of IIJS as India’s premier B2B gem and jewellery exhibition.
Alongside the main exhibition, the India Gem & Jewellery Machinery Expo (IGJME) is taking place at BEC from 6 to 10 August. The event features 249 exhibitors across 348 stalls, showcasing jewellery manufacturing technology, automation, precision engineering, tools and equipment.
## Focus on India’s Diamond Trading Ambitions

A key issue highlighted at the opening was the introduction in Parliament of the Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which proposes a 15-year tax exemption for rough diamond sales through India’s Special Notified Zones (SNZs).
GJEPC Chairman Shri Kirit Bhansali described the proposal as a significant reform for the industry, saying it could enable global mining companies and diamond traders to bring rough diamonds directly to India for trading.
Bhansali also highlighted India’s first Pre-Auction Diamond Viewing Event and Melee Auction at the Bharat Ratnam Mega CFC under the Free Trade Warehousing Zone (FTWZ) framework as another development supporting the country’s ambition to become a global diamond trading hub.
## Industry Leaders Highlight Global Growth
Maharashtra Revenue Minister Shri Chandrashekhar Bawankule said the state’s Gem & Jewellery Policy 2025 was intended to create an ecosystem supporting investment, employment and the global competitiveness of the industry.
Dr. Vijay Darda, Former Member of Rajya Sabha, emphasised India’s craftsmanship, culture and entrepreneurial capabilities, while calling for the development of globally recognised Indian jewellery brands.

Mr. Pritesh Patel, CEO and President of GIA, highlighted the importance of trust, transparency and education as consumer expectations evolve, describing India as a growing centre of innovation, talent and leadership in the global gem and jewellery sector.
Mr. Ananthanarayanan Hariharan, CEO of Damas Jewellery, said IIJS continues to provide a platform for jewellery design, craftsmanship, innovation, business relationships and collaboration.
Bhansali said the next phase of the industry’s development should build on India’s manufacturing strength by increasing demand for Indian jewellery, developing internationally recognised brands and strengthening Brand India across global markets.
## New Industry Platforms and Initiatives
The 2026 edition also includes The Select Club, a curated showcase of couture jewellery, and 20 Under 40, which recognises emerging industry leaders.
JewelStart Demo Day focuses on jewellery technology startups, while Innov8 Talks brings together experts to discuss diamonds, artificial intelligence, technology, precious metals and the changing global gem and jewellery business.
With new trade agreements, export reforms and initiatives targeting diamond trading and technology-enabled manufacturing, IIJS Bharat Premiere 2026 is taking place at a significant stage in India’s efforts to expand its role across the global gem and jewellery value chain.
